The Konjac Sponge

I went on a shopping trip to Selfridges in Birmingham today and discovered this strange sponge in the beauty hall. This is marketed as an ‘enriching, powerful and effective answer to premium skin cleansing.’

You dampen the sponge and use it to remove makeup either with or without cleanser. This didn’t remove my mascara however it did remove my other makeup.

The jury’s still out on this one as I haven’t found it any more effective than my usual cleansing cloths, but my opinion may change the more I use this.

Favourite cleansers of the moment

cleansers july 2014

ALPHA H BALANCING CLEANSER WITH ALOE VERA | This is a very gentle cleanser with virtually no scent. It removes all traces of makeup including waterproof mascara. The only downside to this is that you have to apply it to a wet face which doesn’t feel quite as luxurious as applying directly on to dry skin. However this is a good day-to-day cleanser and is affordable at £23 for 200ml

BIODERMA SENSIBIO H20 | This is my favourite cleanser for late nights when I don’t have the energy to use a ‘proper’ cleanser and water. This is a micelle water which removes all makeup and makes your skin tingle slightly which I like. I don’t use this everyday because I prefer a more thorough cleanser, but it is ideal for those nights when you want to take your makeup off quickly without worrying about breaking out the next morning

LIZ EARLE CLEANSE AND POLISH HOT CLOTH CLEANSER | I fall in and out of love with this cleanser. I used to have the full size then never repurchased for whatever reason, and had forgotten how good it was until I received this sample size and am hooked again. This leaves your skin silky soft. I will repurchase this when my Alpha H runs out but for me I would only ever had a full size of either this or the Alpha H at any one time. I feel that they are comparable so don’t need both

EMMA HARDIE AMAZING FACE MORINGA CLEANSING BALM | This has been hyped about for so long but it truly does deserve all the hype. Hands down the best cleanser I have ever tried. It removes all makeup, leaves your skin feeling baby soft and smells freakin amazing. It is quite pricey at £36 for 100ml but it really is a princess product. I will definitely be repurchasing this as soon as it runs low. You will not be able to understand just how nice this product is until you try it yourself

A naughty little purchase!

What started out as an innocent shopping trip turned naughty when I realised that Marks and Spencer had 20% off beauty!

The only shop that I am aware that you can buy Glamglow from local to me is Marks and Spencer. I purchased the black pot which is the YouthMud TingleExfoliate Treatment

This 15ml pot is usually £25, so with 20% off I paid £20 for it. This is still a ridiculous amount to spend on such a small pot of face mask but as a one off I think it is acceptable!

It is no wonder that it is called YouthMud as the product looks just like mud. It also doesn’t smell particularly great but at least that means that there are no fragrances added!

Despite its appearance, this ‘mud’ is amazing. It left my skin glowing and smooth and gave me a good skin day!

I would recommend this to anyone who wants a ‘princess product’ as a treat for a truly indulgent pamper!

A very pink basket!

I went in to boots to grab the new Garnier Miceller Water as my L’oreal one is almost empty, but of course I was tempted by a couple of other products.

So I picked up the Garnier Miceller Water which was the reason that I went in to Boots. It comes in a 400ml size and has much nicer packaging that the L’oreal version. It was fairly effective at removing my makeup but I have only used it a couple of times so cannot tell what effect it has on my skin yet. I can already tell you that it is not os good as Bioderma but then it is half the price and much easier to get in the UK.

No7 had an offer where you get a free gift if you buy any two products, so I picked up 2 new blushes.

The first blush I picked up was one of there Pop & Glow Cream Blushes in the colour Rose Blossom. This is a beautiful bright pink which really looks fresh on my porcelain skin. I thought that this product might be quite hard to blend but it was surprisingly easy.

The second blusher I picked up was a limited edition powder blush palette in Peony Petals.

This is such a beautiful product and the packaging is really nice as well. This blush has quite a bit of shimmer in it, which I wouldn’t usually go for, but the colour is so delicate and beautiful that I think it will be beautiful for summer. This colour is really easy to apply and has good colour payoff like all No7 blushes.

Because I purchased 2 No7 products I got their spring free gift.

The gift contains:

  • Skin Illuminator Radiance Boosting Beauty Fluid in Peach – this is fairly shimmery and I don’t think it would work well with a camera flash
  • High Shine Lip Crayon in Delicate Pink – this is a lovely natural pink BUT it has glitter particles in it which is very strange
  • Stay Perfect Eye Shadow in Cappuccino Trio (I don’t know why it is called trio when there is only one colour)
  • Exceptional Definition Mascara in Black – I haven’t tested this yet because I’m saving it to try when I go skiing next week

The last thing I picked up was a box of Strawberry & Cream Lindt. These are the best chocolates EVER!! Boots is the only shop that I can find them in so I can’t resist picking up a box whenever I’m shopping!

Autumn Lip Essentials

Blistex Relief Cream | This is definitely my number 1 winter lip essential. This cream is designed to relieve cracked lips but is also for use on cold sores. I use this when my lips are in their worst condition and have cracked. This has quite a menthol/medicinal taste but really works. A product for those days when nothing else will cut it. The only criticism I have is that due to the metal tube, it is not handbag practical. If the tube gets squished, when you open it it just keeps coming out so is a huge waste of the product.

Hawaiian Tropic Lip Gloss in Mango Papaya | This will seem like a strange product to have in an autumn post. For those of you who are not familiar with the brand, Hawaiian Tropic produce sun cream. However this lip gloss tastes so god damn good that it is an all year round essential. Plus it has spf 25 so you’re keeping your lips protected all year round!

Lanolips Lemonaid | I held off buying this product for months due to the price. It is £8.99 which seems ridiculous for a lip balm. I finally succumbed to temptation and do not feel at all guilty. This lip balm is amazing. It so so thick it really does moisturise your lips for hours after application. This would be a fantastic product for overnight moisturisation, however due to the pretty shimmer I prefer to use this during the day as I don’t normally wear lipstick.  It tastes amazing and it has a slight pretty shimmer. There’s nothing else to say. A fantastic product!

Lush Mint Juleps Lip Scrub | This is the perfect accompaniment to all the other products listed. Lush’s range of lip scrubs are made from sugar so you lick them off after scrubbing. I use this before AM and PM and follow with either Lanolips or my 8 Hour Cream. No mess and they taste amazing. My favourite is the mint juleps one which tastes like mint chocolate, however all the other flavours are divine. This gives the perfect base for applying lip balm and lip colour.

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream | This is a cult beauty product and certainly lives up to its reputation. I use this overnight to keep my lips hydrated. I have to confess that I have an awful habit of biting my lips when i’m stressed so this really helps to repair them overnight. You can also use this product on other areas such as the cuticles or patches of dry skin. Quite pricey but lasts for ages!

Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker Gloss Stick in Nudist | I bought this product purely for the name but was pleasantly surprised. I don’t normally wear much colour on my lips at all so I went for the nudist shade. This is a gorgeous natural shade with an edible vanilla scent. These apply nicely and last for a few hours. An added bonus is that the packaging is handbag friendly.

October Birchbox

The theme of this months birchbox is ‘Beauty Buzz’

For any of you that have not heard of it, Birchbox is a monthly beauty sample subscription.

It costs £12.95 per month including postage

In each box you get 5 samples plus a lifestyle extra, but this month there was also a beauty extra

I have to say that this month I was especially excited because I finally got the pink bag!

KMS California Curl Up Wave Foam Mousse|£15 for 200ml| Sample was 75 ml so worth £5.62 This wave enhancing mousse encourages curls, while protecting hair from heat | I haven’t actually used this product as I haven’t had the time to let my hair dry naturally to get the best results.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance |£28 for 50ml | Sample was 15ml so worth £8.40 The universal pearl tint creates a soft focus effect to minimise the look of imperfections with a radiant finish | This is a fantastic primer. It has a lovely radiant finish and is a fantastic primer for foundation. It’s nice to see a high-end brand such as this.

Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant | £67 for 60g | Sample was 7.5 g so worth £8.37 An exfoliant that brightens all skin types, reduces the appearance of fine lines, acne marks and discolouration | This is a beautiful exfoliator. It has fine grains which really make your skin feel super soft after use

theBalm cosmetics Stainiac | £10 for 0.3oz | Sample was 0.04oz so worth £1.33 | This easily blended two-in-one lip and cheek stain gives a natural, understated flush | I have only tried this product on my lips as I am not a fan of cheek stains. The colour is lovely and looks perfect with a lipgloss on top

Dr Lipp Nipple Balm for Lips | £11.50 for 15ml | Sample was 3ml so worth £2.30 | Versatile lip balm that started life as a nipple balm! Hydrates and repairs dry flaky skin, sealing in moisture | I was really excited to try this product as lanolin based lip products are normally good. However, I could not get any of the product out of the tube. The product is so stiff that it is impossible to get out. I definitely will not be purchasing the full-size of this product

Lifestyle Extra | UltraDEX | £8.15 for 75ml | Sample was 15 ml so worth £1.63 | This award=winning line kills bacteria, lifts stains, whitens teeth and freshens breath | I will not be trying this product as there is not enough fluoride in the toothpaste to meet my dentists recommended amount. My dentist recommended only using toothpaste’s with a minimum of 1400ppm of fluoride whereas this toothpaste only has 1000ppm

Beauty Extra | Egyptian Magic | £29 for 118ml | Sample was 3 * 3ml sachets so worth £2.21 | A cult multi-purpose healing cream made with just six all-natural ingredients | I haven’t actually used this product yet but am very excited to try it as it can be used on the skin and the ends of the hair

Total value of box = £29.86

I think that this was a good box this month. I love the inclusion of a Laura Mercier product and apparently there is another product by this brand in November’s box. Even though there are a couple of products that I won’t use I still feel this is great value for money.

True Liquid Gold!!!

As is pretty obvious from the title, this post is about the cult product that is Alpha-H’s Liquid Gold!

I had been wanting to try this product for a long time, but the claims made seemed too good to be true!

This product claims to restore a golden glow to the skin, as well as helping with hyper-pigmentation, acne, fine lines and large pores!

I have been using the product for a couple of weeks now and can say that I have noticed a huge difference in my skin. I apply it every other night after cleansing. When I apply it I do not feel any tingling, but when I wake up in the morning my skin simply looks healthier. It is difficult to pin-point exactly what it has done to my skin, but there is a noticeable difference. My skin appears smoother, blemishes are reduced and my skin simply glows.

This is a good nights sleep in a bottle!

I am completely hooked on this product!

I will 100% be repurchasing this item in the larger size!

If you want a good skin day in a bottle then this is the product for you!

It costs £31.50 for 100ml

Products I can’t live without

(1) ELEMIS BALANCING LAVENDER TONER – very refreshing and calming.

(2) ELEMIS BALANCING LIME BLOSSOM CLEANSER – smells similar to palma violet sweets. This cleanser clears all makeup including waterproof mascara.

(3) MAC STUDIO FIX FOUNDATION IN SHADE NC15 – provides perfect coverage without looking too ‘caked-on’. I am naturally very pale and this is the only foundation that I have been able to find in my perfect shade. I purchased the pump from MAC as the bottle is a pour bottle. The pump was only £3.50 and can be used in future bottles.

(4) GARNIER CAFFEINE EYE ROLL-ON – I use this before applying my makeup to refresh my eyes and get rid of any puffiness. The metal roller ball is very cooling and refreshing.

(5) MAC PRO LONGWEAR CONCEALER IN SHADE NW15 – this tiny bottle has lasted me over 2 months and I still have some left. The perfect shade for my pale skin and provides excellent coverage both under the eyes and on blemishes.

(6) No 7 STAY PERFECT EYESHADOW IN WHEATSHEAF – this is a shimmery nude shade and provides a great natural look.

(7) LANCOME HYPNOSE STAR MASCARA IN NOIR MIDNIGHT – this mascara both lengthens and plumps and is by far the best mascara I have ever tried. It retails at £22 but is definately worth the price.

(8) MALLY WATERPROOF AUTOMATIC EYELINER IN ONYX – this was described as a bulletproof eyeliner when I purchased it as part of a set off QVC and they definately weren’t lying. This eyeliner stays in place from first thing in the morning until I go to bed and does not fade throughout the day at all, yet removes easily with the Elemis cleanser above.

(9) SIMPLE KIND TO SKIN HYDRATING LIGHT MOISTURISER – perfect base for makeup. A very light yet very nourishing moisturiser.
